Main Idea
In "Work-Life Harmony: Enjoy Your Life and Family More Because of (Not in Spite Of) Your Work," Grant Botma challenges the traditional notion of work-life balance and proposes a more integrated approach: work-life harmony. Botma argues that instead of viewing work and personal life as opposing forces, we should see them as complementary aspects of a unified whole. By doing so, we can create a life where both work and personal relationships thrive together, leading to greater joy, purpose, and fulfillment.

Introduction
We are all created to contribute something to the world. But it’s difficult to keep contributing if we don’t believe that the contributions we make are meaningful, impactful, and appreciated. On the other hand, if we stop contributing, it impacts our societies, the financial well-being of our communities, our homes, and the people we provide for. The saddest part—the part that is just plain wrong—is that if you don’t feel like you’re contributing and being appreciated for that contribution, it affects your mental well-being. It impacts the joy and happiness you have in life. You’ve likely experienced that feeling, and it sucks. So I want to change that.
Not only do I want to help you achieve work-life harmony so you can have better relationships at home and at work, but I want you to have more joy in your life because you see, feel, believe, and understand that the work you’re doing is making an impact. It’s being fully appreciated by your peers, your team at work, and your family. When everyone in your life truly appreciates the contributions you make, it makes those contributions and the effort you’ve made so much more sustainable. You don’t feel alone. And you will add unbelievable amounts of joy and enjoyment to your life.
Purpose
Your purpose is necessary for work-life harmony; you can’t have work-life harmony without it. Once you have your purpose, you invite your family, your work, your church, and all the different areas of your life into that purpose.
Where people get messed up, usually when trying to pursue work-life balance, is thinking that different aspects of life have different purposes. Those people try to pursue all of those different purposes all at the same time, attempting to juggle everything at once. They end up back on the balance beam, bouncing from one to the other, attempting to meet all these purposes—and trying not to fall off.
